The Snowman at the Fondation Beyeler is a metaphorical thermometer. Created in 1987, this enduring Snowman serves as a symbolic indicator of temperature. Encountering this timeless sculpture at a time of year when it is usually too warm for its presence invites reflection on the seasonal subtleties of the environment. Its pure and simple face evokes emotions of nostalgia, reminding me of childhood feelings tinged with sadness as we bid farewell to the snowman with the passing of winter.

I understand Luzern as the KKL shows it. The building offers a unique view point from which to explore and understand the city of Luzern. The KKL's artificial fountain is strategically placed both inside and outside the building. This integration is intended to blur the boundaries between the building and the Lake of Luzern, but also serves as a functional flow meter. The juxtaposition of the artificial lake and Lake Luzern reveals the direction and speed of the river's flow. This contrast allows me to perceive the rapid currents of the lake. With its roof, the building frames the landscape, offering a panoramic view that is accentuated by the river and the old city. The use of these architectural elements goes beyond mere aesthetics; it helps to understand one's surroundings.

These artistic and architectural indicators, whether embodied in  the whimsical allure of the Snowman or the structural brilliance of the KKL, collectively become a measuring stick through which I perceive and interpret my surroundings. The tangible impact of the creations on my connection to the region became evident, providing a profound reason that anchored me to stay. It imbues the space with the reality, evoking a vivid sense of place and giving me understanding of the region.
